Anthropological & Palaeoanthropological Highlights

Jane Goodall

Had a chat in Beijing

Heard her signature pant-hoot chimp greeting typical of Gombe chimpanzees.

Gombe Chimpanzees

Met the descendants of the chimpanzees Goodall had named instead of numbered

The mother here would have known Jane Goodall.

“The Cradle of Humankind”

Oldupai Gorge, Tanzania (also commonly known as Olduvai Gorge)
One of East Africa’s richest palaeoanthropological sites. Louis Leakey later mentored “the Trimates”: Jane Goodall in her study of chimpanzees, Dian Fossey in her study of gorillas and Birutė Galdikas in her study of orangutans. As an undergraduate, I attended a University of Toronto guest lecture by his son, Richard Leakey, on the co-evolution of tool use and language, including Broca’s area and the FOXP2 gene.
